NC Fusion is a small business I started in 1999 with the goal of assisting local companies with technology.

I consulted and evaluated local business with respect to the latest in electronics and computer technology. I developed specifications for the work, and time-lines for completion. I worked with third parties to complete sophisticated task for my clients. The initial mission was to help companies profit from the web, and the company grew to help businesses with all things technical.

NC Fusion was responsible for publishing the first MLS ® (Multiple Listing Service) on-line in our area. I did this while working with Bob Bryant from Bryant Real Estate. The task was completed using MS-SQL Enterprise Manager tools to convert DBASE files into SQL for the website. At the time I used Cold Fusion Application Server to allow visitors to search the properties online. As it became standard to publish MLS®, the data was provided in SQL database format, and I changed the website to utilize PHP.

I developed a web based application for Jerry Porter Lincoln Mercury sales. I programmed their website to display inventory, and show Internet specials. Along with publishing the inventory on the website, I made a secure back-end for uploading images and more information about the vehicles. What made this work stand out, at the time, was the ability for their staff to make changes to the web site using a secure back-end. This is known as a CMS (Content Management System). After having success with the sales website, I developed an application for the service department that would allow customers to schedule appointment online.

I was on-site to discuss the features for the service department when I was asked to assist with an immediate problem with the office computers. The company was victim to several nasty virus. I took action to disconnect the local network from the Internet, and then isolate and fix the problems. I was able to bring them back online efficiently. My prompt response lead to more work with Jerry Porter, and other companies. I was soon learning more about VPN tunnels, security, backup and restoring data for my clients.

While working with NC Fusion I got involved with e-commerce websites. I gained experience with secure payment systems from PayPal onto merchant accounts using Authorize.net.

Along with building and hosting websites, I helped my clients with marketing and SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Services included article PR (press releases), managing Google AdSense campaigns, and bulk email list.

While running my own company I was able to help a lot of local businesses while gaining knowledge and confidence that I use today. The technical challenges allowed me to broaden my skill-set, and I am more productive from the experience gained.

This domain (NCFUSION.COM) was home for my company website from 2001 till around 2014. Over the past few years I weaned my clients off my services and focused on my full-time position teaching electronics at Cape Fear Community College (CFCC).
